Storing Data in the WAVE File Format

An in-depth look into writing data into WAVE files for the purpose of reading back silently, written by Sierra at Zone-Hacker.net.

Please note the following paper is for informational and educational purposes only. It is to only be used for legitimate programming practices and should not be used to hide malware or evade anti-virus software. That's only two uses for it!

The WAVE file format, known as the Waveform Audio File Format, is a type of audio format standardized by Microsoft and IBM, commonly used as system-sounds in the Windows operating system and used a lot in audio for software, as it is widely supported by programming languages with already "built-in" functions.

The WAV file format is compatible with most operating systems, including Apple's Macintosh, Microsoft's Windows and of course, every one's Linux. The WAV format supports compressed audio and also metadata, meaning they can hold information about the audio itself, such as number of channels, format, sample rate, byte rate, bits per sample and several extra parameters supported by third-party applications and plug-ins.

Now that we know a bit of history about the WAV file, and the basics behind what it's used for - let's talk about how it's structured and put together. I found a great article written by a man named Craig at Stanford University which explains the structure in great detail. It begins like any other file format, with a small ASCII string - "RIFF" which acts as a header for the file.

RIFF - The header, 4 bytes
ChunkSize - the size of the file in bytes following this number, so it will be the entire file minus 8 bytes (RIFF and ChunkSize excluded), 4 bytes.
Format, contains the ASCII letters "WAVE", indicating audio format, 4 bytes.

Now the WAVE file has two "sectors", we'll call them. the "fmt" sector, which contains all the data about the audio being played, it is read by the audio playing software and used to play it using the settings read and codecs indicated in this section. The other sector, is the "data" sector, which contains - you guessed it! Data for the audio playing. So we'll continue with the format now,

"fmt", the sub header for the fmt sector, 4 bytes - in reality doesn't just contain "fmt" but "fmt ", being a space to pad the 4 bytes. (fmt = 3, right? So we add the space to the end of it. It's a wonder why they didn't use a null-byte, actually.)
fmt sector size, this is the size of the rest of the fmt sector, similar to ChunkSize but is only for the fmt sector, 4 bytes.
Audio format, PCM being 1 which is uncompressed audio, 2 bytes.
NumChannels - this is mono or stereo, 1 or 2, 2 bytes.
SampleRate, 4 bytes.
ByteRate, 4 bytes.
BlockAlign, 2 bytes.
BitsPerSample, 2 bytes.
[Optional] ExtraParamSize, 2 bytes - used for displaying information about compression or changes to WAVE format.
[Optional] ExtraParams, unlimited no. bytes. - Possible place to store data.

Now, like I said, the fmt chunk isn't really what we're too worried about. You can grab the fmt chunk from any wave file and copy paste it over, then alter the sector and file sizes accordingly. You could also use the ExtraParams chunk to store data, we'll look into doing that another time - or not at all. We'll see how this turns out.

And finally, our much beloved data. It is very similar to End-Of-File data found at the end of executable files for reading back, used in settings or adding a payload to be read and executed in memory. This is where out fun begins.

Now because we can craft the wave file using just a hex editor (I recommend Hex Workshop), you can create a working audio file which will sound like total rubbish but will even play in audio players, so who's to detect it as a virus? Especially if it's encrypted. This is perfect for adding questionable payloads onto the end of a legitimate music file and reading it back using an external application, just add a small ASCII split string, like you would with EOF data, and read back everything after it.

Also, another thing to note, some audio compression formats in WAVE will basically skip parts of data that appear to be "ERROR" and go onto where it looks valid, then play from there - so if you were to take a standard music file from one of your favourite artists that happened to be on your hard-drive, replaced a large portion of the data segment with your payload (with split delimiters on each end, of course), when playing said file it would get to the point where your payload would be, skip it, then continue - usually this will only be a few seconds depending on the size of your payload - so you could replace the end of the audio data so if there person were to play the file, they wouldn't notice!

Expect a function/module written in Visual Basic soon (ReadWAVData/WriteWAVData/ReadWAVResource) and a project example. Also working WAV examples.

About Gevey SIM in INDIA

DOES GEVEY SIM WORKS IN INDIA ? AND WHAT IS GEVEY ETC WHATS ITS HISTORY ?

Right now every one's eye's are on the Chinese made SIM INTERPOSER called GEVEY SIM.
Because the iPhone hackers like MuscleNerd, Sherif_hasim, Dev Team iPhone has failed to deliver new unlock solution for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3 lastest BaseBands.

80% of them are waiting for the unlock since october 2010, and have been waiting till today..yet we haven't got any information about unlock date.
In middle we got an information about the unlock which made us temporary happy that is about NCK CODE UNLOCK which unlocks our iPhone permanently,
but yet it is just theoretical but not practical yet.
We know the iPhone Hackers are really doing their work hard in finding new buffer exploits bootroom etc ., They do have real life .
In mean time we got a new information that "GEVEY SIM" which unlocks most of the latest basebands which costing around 70$ in USA and 54$ in CHINA (exclusive of shipping).
Shipping money might be different for different countries. On an average it might another 10 to 20$

Just First cut your sim and now with the GEVEY sim you get a SIM INTERPOSER and with a tray just keep the electronic device and your sim on it and keep it inside the iPhone


Now Start the iPhone it should say sim activation failed or sim invalid something just ignore and immediately dial 112 it should say some thing after 2 secs just hang it and now go to
Settings >> toggle the Airplan mode (on and off)
Now again it says sim activation failed etc now just ignore and wait for few secs.After few moments you get the complete signal of your carrier till now works with AIRTEL

Remote Desktop in Linux | Backtrack

Ever wondered that you can connect to remote desktop using linux or backtrack or what ever it is any linux operating system :)

Well today i wanted to connct to my RDP using linux and was searching for the information as i wanted to be in linux to learn more about it :).

And i feel connecting the RDP from windows operating system might be little slow if the windows is crashed ( most of the times it does ) So i wanted to try to connect to my personal RDP using my BacTrack or any linux operating system

So first all you need to do is download rDesktop. It is the remote desktop for linux version :)

First Download it now follow the instructions down


Download it and save some where
in my case i have downloaded at /root/rdesktop-1.6.0.tar.gz


Now extract it with the below command (without quote)

"tar -xzvf rdesktop-1.1.0.tar.gz"

Now go to the directory "cd rdesktop-1.6.0" (without quotes)

Now next step is to configure the rdesktop

type "./configue"  (without quotes)

Now type "make"  (without quotes)
Now type "make install" (without quotes)

done it should install now :)

connect to rdp

./rdesktop host:port

According to a report filed by Daily News & Analysis, Nokia will bring its first Windows Phone handset to market sometime in 2012. The information comes courtesy of Nokia’s “India DM,” D Shivakumar, who was quoted as saying his company’s first Windows Phone handset would become available “roughly 12 months from now.” The information contradicts previous reports, and comments made by Nokia executives, that implied a smartphone running Microsoft’s mobile operating system was on target for a 2011 release. Nokia is expected to release close to twenty new Symbian smartphones in 2011.

Nokia will launch its first Windows Mobile phone in roughly 12 months from now, the Finnish firm’s India MD, D Shivakumar said. Shivakumar also defended the deal with PC operating system maker pointing to Microsoft’s strengths in areas such as socia networking, search and other software.

In a regulatory filing in the US on Friday, Nokia had said that it expected most of its smartphones to migrate to the Windows Mobile platform only in two years, setting off speculation that it will take two years to implement the strategy.

Nokia and Microsoft had announced a deal last month under which Nokia promised to build smartphones only on Windows platform, and to abandon other platforms like Android and Symbian.

According to Canalys, a global IT market research firm, the share of Windows in total smarphone sales had plummeted to just 3% during the last quarter of 2010 despite having been present on more than half of the smartphones in the early 2000s. In comparison, Symbian, which is being discarded by Nokia, had a marketshare of 31%.

Critics and consumers dismissed the last major version of Windows Mobile, called Windows Mobile 6, as being clunky and resource-hungry, though they have been kinder on the new version -- Windows Mobile 7, unveiled earlier this year.

Shivakumar said Nokia’s bet is on the new version and its is much better than the earlier ones. “We took the decision after looking at that operating system [Windows Mobile 7]. It’s a good operating system,” he said, when asked about abandoning a popular product for a less popular one.

Nokia, which has around 35-40% of India’s cellphone market, is estimated to be maintaining its share in the smarphone market as well, despite teething troubles in bringing new models to market. The Finnish firm has been caught in a semi-paralysis for the last 2 years as rivals such as Samsung and LG raced ahead by introducing tens of new models in the smartphone category.

The flounder also cost Nokia’s four-year-old CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo his job late last year, and brought Stephen Elop, then head of Microsoft’s business division to Nokia’s head.

Shivakumar said the alliance between Nokia and Microsoft will give the latter a second shot at the mobile market, thanks to Nokia’s 33% global marketshare.

“Microsoft has been looking for a strong hardware partner, but they have been on phones [platforms] which has not given them that strength. With Nokia, suddenly the scales are huge.

“So, for the first time in many a markets, people will get used to a Windows Mobile phone thanks to the Nokia tie-up,” he pointed out.

For Nokia, the deal will help the company give a quiet burial to the ailing Symbian operating system while leveraging Microsoft’s influence as a shareholder at Facebook to bring nifty features to its future smartphones.

“Its [new] operating system has links to it [Facebook].. It has a range of services which complement Nokia services -- they have Bing [search], Zune [music] and games,” the India MD said. Meanwhile, Nokia will launch around 40-50 new phone models in 2011, including around 20 smartphones built on Symbian, he added.

He also claimed that the Rs 23,000 ‘N8’ trebled the Indian smartphone market since its launch six months ago. Around 6 million out of the 155 million phones sold in India last year are expected to have been ‘smart’, according to research firm IDC India. They are expected to hit 39 million units by 2014, according to Canalys.

Well every one of us are eagerly waiting for unlock for their iPhones 02.10.04 , 3.10.01 or 4.10.01 BaseBand. 

Here is the good news :) The one of the best iPhone Hacker from the Team Dev Blog "MuscleNerd" announced that there is permanent solution for unlocking your favorite phone iPhone :D

So we need to wait till next weekend :D to see MuscleNerd's tools :) hope he releases sooner cant wait for a week

What is this NCK-key cracking? How does it work?

The NCK-key is generated by Apple if you’d like to unlock you iPhone officially. This “NCK-unlock” method was initially developed by Geohot  while working on iPhone 2G unlock that could “crack” these 15 digits long unique key easily. Geohot’s NCKBF program could do around 100,000 keys/second.

Now, with this exploit in hand, iOS hackers can’t unlock your baseband, but they can capture more information from the baseband to speed up this cracking process. Since the NORID and CHIPID (unique for every device) are known, you’d apparently only have to check 40 more bits (5 digits). A 40 bits key is theoretically crackable on “home hardware” within a week (24/7). The downside of this approach is that you’ll have to keep your computer turned on, and your iPhone has to be connected. And that is the reason why they never tried it before.

Here, “by Next weekend” does not necessarily mean that you will get iPhone 4 unlock by next weekend. It would just be a confirmation, whether the exploit, they are working on, can be used to unlock iPhone 4 permanently or not. If they are able to crack this 40-bit unique NCK key of the device, there are high chances that your iPhone 4 would be unlocked permanently.

Unlock iPhone Permanently using NCK | What is NCK

Since there is a lot of confusion out there, and since I'm repeating myself all the time (which I do not really like), I made this little write up of questions that are continuously being asked (my personal FAQ). Please not that this is a global explanation. Don't try to argue with me on specific details.

1. What happend?! I thought the unlock for basebands 02.10.01 & 03.10.01 would be released within the next 2 weeks?

As you know the Dev-Team (MuscleNerd) have been working on the unlock for quite a while now. They were making great progress on the unlock, but they found out that they (accidentally) unlocked "one particular SIM card" instead of the baseband itself. Which means that the unlock would only be an unlock you could use with MuscleNerd's T-Mobile SIM. So, useless. If the unlock would unlock the baseband instead of "the SIM", it'd probably be out within 2 weeks (reasonable timeframe which they had hoped). But things turned out to be different. Basically these <2 weeks predictions were a lack of information. 

2. What is this NCK-key cracking? How does it work?

The NCK-key is the key generated by Apple if you'd officially unlock you iPhone, and with officially I mean, via your carrier. This "NCK-unlock" method is known over a few years now, actually since geohot started working on unlocking the iPhone 2G. He developed a program that could "crack" this 15 digits long key and unique for every device. Geohots NCKBF program could do around 100,000 keys/second which would produce a hit in many years, or complete a search in 317 years. To get to a point where this is actually doable we would need many orders of magnitude of improvement. Even if you use a PS3 (would we still want to use this??) or special hardware (within 1,000 US$ range) you will only get an improvement of 20-100 times.. which doesn't help much. 

Now, luckily, with the exploits they have now, they can't unlock your baseband, but they *can* capture more information from the baseband to speed up this cracking process. Since the NORID and CHIPID (unique for every device) are known, you'd apparently only have to check 40 more bits (5 digits). A 40 bits key is  theoretically crackable on "home hardware" within a week (24/7). The downside of this approach is that you'll have to keep your computer turned on, and your iPhone has to be connected. And that is the reason why they never tried it before. Please note that this method is completely theorical and has been NOT tried at all till this moment.

3.  Now what? Should I sell my locked iPhone 4?

I'd wait for more information on this "NCK-unlock". Right now it's pretty vague what timeframe we're talking about. If the Dev-Team can pull this method off, it'd be very promising for those waiting for an unlock. If this method turns out to be not doable, I'd consider selling your iPhone 4 and save up for a factory unlocked iPhone 5.

4. Do you think there is every going to be an unlock? 

Of course. But that's unlikely to be any time soon (with soon being <1 month). 

5. If the NCK method fails, how long do you think it will take for the Dev-Team to unlock the iPhone 4? 

No ETA at all. Could be a few weeks, but it could easily be a few months as well.

iPhone Permanent Unlock Available

Got an iPhone ? Tired of waiting for exploits and their release from dev-team ? Do you want to pay money and want to get the iPhone Unlocked permanently ?

if yes then this post is for you all !!

it is believed that around 20% of the world is using iPhone in that 20% around 67% iPhone's are locked with some xyz carrier.

They are locked until the carrier releases the iPhone etc.

So people just buy the phones in some country and bring back to their home country  and find that their iPhone got locked and cant use in their home country.

So they search internet and wait for the JailBreak and unlock and do that for temporary and enjoy their phones.

But right now there is no unlock available for iPhone 4 2.x and 3.10.01 base bands and even iPhone 3 7.x basebands , and the iPhone hackers like MuscleNerd, DevTeam, etc said that there might be delayed the unlock solution and we need to wait for more days/months

now what to do with our iPhones ? sell them or use it as iPod

We can't blame the hackers because they are doing very good work providing the exploits finding the buffer overflows to pwn the complete system and to get the root exploit and then to unlock the iPhone currently we are using.

Now in these kind of headaches our best answer is ? Permanent Unlock for your iPhones.

Well a problem here is if your iPhone is locked to AT&T carrier then there is no permanent unlock available atm but remaining

if you bought the iPhone in UK or France or any other country there is permanent unlock available for some money max (120$) depends on the country's iPhone. The higest is 113$ for UK based iPhone :)

Online Multi Antivirus Scanner Development Completed

Alas my one of my dream  come true, i have almost finished my development of Online Multi Antivirus Scanner.

What is it ?

Well it is a website where you can upload a file which you think is suspicious and once you press a button ("scan")  Your file will be automatically scanned by 9 antivirus* ( can be increased to 24 to 30)  at a time and gives you result there itself.

Although this is not a complete antivirus solution but this one of it !!

This is best one if you have some file which is not detected by current antivirus you have on your computer  then you can scan that file online and find the result :)

Mike Starr Dead on March 8th

Michael Christopher "Mike" Starr (April 4, 1966 – March 8, 2011) was an American musician, best known as the original bassist in Alice in Chains, with whom he played from the band's formation in 1987 until 1993.

Former Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr was found dead this morning in his Salt Lake City home.  The 44-year-old entertainer appeared on Season 3 of Celebrity Rehab and Sober House in 2009 for treatment of heroin addiction.

Starr was arrested on February 18, 2011 when police found him in possession of six Opana pills and six Xanax tablets.

The rocker left Alice In Chains back in 1993 and has struggled with drug dependency for years.  He told Dr. Drew that he signed on to do Celebrity Rehab because of the death of fellow band member Layne Staley ,who overdosed in 2002 at the age of 34.

Dr. Drew said after Starr’s recent arrest: “Mike Starr’s addiction is so profound that I always have to be prepared to expect anything.”

A cause of death has not yet been determined, though an overdose is suspected.  Toxicology findings will not be released for 5-6 weeks.

Mike’s father told TMZ, “It’s a terrible shock and tragedy.”

Leaked iPhone 4 sports 64GB storage

This is the HOT NEWS about iPhone i have searched a lot in United States Emirates Shops and even in Black Market i have searched for 64 GB but i couldn't find. I have found China made iPhone of 128 GB i lol'ed.

For first time i really believed that it was true then i felt so dumb lol.

But finally APPLE iPHONE 64 got leaked this week.
on the left side what you can see is 64 GB iPhone 4.






More leaked Apple. Recent images of the Apple iPhone 4 leaked on the Internet show that the Cupertino-based tech giant may be planning minor upgrades to the hugely successful phone.

In a recent post MICgadget.com claims that it has got hold of an engineering prototype with XXGB marked on the back. Upon operating the phone, it claims, the settings page shows that the phone indeed has a 64-GB capacity. It runs the iOS version 4.1.

This might mean that the device is from the same batch as the one that Gizmodo.com got hold of before the iPhone 4 launch. MICgadget also goes on to say that the owner of this phone got this device from a source who has a few of these with him. They also claim that the phone was definitely leaked from the Foxconn factory in Shenzen.

iPhone Buzz | How to Choose and Buy iPhone

Here is another important post i feel important while going for iPhone. Apple iPhone 4 Black Smartphone 16GB (AT&T)

These days the craze for an iPhone has been increased, with its dramatic increase of performance, user friendly and lots of features made iPhone a top Phone in the world market.

Even the person who used to hate iPhone now wanting to buy one iPhone because i was one of the persons who used hate the iPhone when it was in  iPhone 3.But one i have seen the version 4 that is 4th generation my idea got changed, My friend bought one iPhone (locked but jailbreaked) i used to play with it, my hate towards gradually decreased and i wanted to try the iPhone 4. But before buying i have no idea how to choose a iPhone which can be easy for me to use because most of the iPhone when you buy will be locked or later locked. We need to wait for unlock to release or go to some unlockers pay money then get unlocked or atleast jailbreaked.
So after i bought some random iPhone now i feel that my choice was wrong,After doing much research i found how to choose an iPhone while you buy from grey or black market or even Second Hands as they are worth even with 3rd hand.

So this post is mainly targeted for the people who are about to buy an iPhone.

Well first when you go to some market where they sell iPhones first Boot the iPhone (ON) and go to settings
if you cant see settings and if it says insert SIM to activate please don't buy that phone out of curiosity, because that phone has been locked to some carrier.

go to Settings >> General >> About

There scroll down you should see Model Number:MC123XX or MB123XX some thing.

Now choose one the Phones which has MB123XX

HERE MB is constant 123 can be any 3 digit numbers and XX is the Country where it was manufactured.

Now if the XX contains any of these below letters then you can accept the phone because they must be factory unlocked, Because in some countries the law says no Mobile Network Provider cannot restrict a user to lock on to one carrier he can choose any carriers he need's, if they do its a crime.
