Extension Watchdog Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy – Extension Watchdog

 Effective date: January 13, 2026

Extension Watchdog is designed to help users understand how browser extensions may affect the pages they visit. We take privacy seriously and built the extension to operate locally.

 Summary

  - We do not collect or sell personal data.
  - We do not transmit browsing data to any server.
  - All processing happens locally in your browser.
  - You can clear all stored data at any time.

 What data the extension accesses

Extension Watchdog observes page changes in your browser to detect security‑relevant modifications. It also reads the list of installed extensions and their permissions so you can see which extensions may have access to a page.

Data that may be stored locally

The extension stores data only on your device using your browser’s local storage. This includes:

  - Alert logs about page changes (timestamps, URL/domain, change summaries)
  - Extension inventory (name, version, permissions, host permissions)
  - User‑initiated exports of alert data

No data is sent to us

Extension Watchdog does not send your data to any external server. There are no analytics, trackers, or telemetry.

Why permissions are required

  - Host access: to observe page changes on sites you visit
  - Management: to list installed extensions and permissions
  - Storage: to save alerts and extension inventory locally

Data retention and deletion

You control retention. Alerts can be cleared at any time, or by date range (last month, last 3/6/12 months, or custom range). You can also export and delete your stored alerts.

Third‑party sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer data to third parties.

Security

All processing is local. We do not have access to your stored data. You control what is stored and can remove it at any time.

Children’s privacy

The extension does not target children and does not knowingly collect personal information.

  Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date and publish the revised version.
